Are you crazy enough to try Coffee with BBQ Sauce?

MontaVida™ – Chipotle BBQ Sauce

BBQ Sauce with coffee

1 Tbs canola oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 canned chipotle chiles in adobo, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 Tbs lemon juice
1/4 cup molasses
1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 cup brewed MontaVida™ Coffee
1/2 Tbs black pepper
1 tsp. dry mustard powder
1/4 medium yellow onion, finely diced
Pinch of ground clove
1 tsp. smoked paprika
Heat a sauce pan over medium heat. Add canola oil.  Sweat the onion until translucent, about 8 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for a minute more.

Stir in remaining ingredients — chipotles, ketchup, tomato paste, vinegar, lemon juice, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, brewed MontaVida™ coffee, black pepper, mustard, clove and smoked paprika. Reduce heat to low and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt to taste.

If you’re not already taking good care of your heart, now’s the time to start. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer among women and men in the United States. Many risk factors increase your chances of developing heart disease, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and being overweight.

Luckily, one of the best ways to protect your heart and reduce your risk is by eating a heart-healthy diet. Here are five steps to get you on the right track.

1. Load up on fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
These three factors are the keys to a heart-healthy diet. Balance your meals with a mix of these high-fiber foods, and feel free to include legumes and nuts as well. Fiber helps regulate blood pressure and keeps you feeling full longer. Aim for 4 1/2 cups of fruits and veggies a day and at least 3 ounces of whole grains.

2. Watch unhealthy fat and cholesterol.
Limiting the amount of saturated and trans fats you eat can help you lower your cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of coronary artery disease. Choose healthy fats like those found in olive oil, canola oil and trans fat-free margarine instead of the ones in butter, creamy sauces, hydrogenated margarine and shortening. Look for monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats, like the ones found in healthy oils, nuts, seeds, soy (tofu) and seafood.

3. Reduce your sodium intake.
Too much sodium can result in high blood pressure. Start by reducing the amount of salt you use as a seasoning when you cook, then begin paying attention to how much sodium is in the prepared foods you eat, like canned soup. You shouldn’t get more than 1,500 milligrams a day.

4. Go with low-fat protein.
Protein is an important part of your diet, but some types are better than others. Stay away from full-fat dairy products, egg yolks, fatty meats and cold cuts. Instead, opt for low-fat dairy, egg whites, lean meat, poultry, fish and legumes. Try starting a Meatless Monday tradition with your family and substitute plant protein for animal protein to reduce your fat and cholesterol intake.

5. Make a meal schedule.
Knowing what to eat and what to avoid is just the beginning of maintaining a heart-healthy diet. To ensure that you stick to the plan, create a meal schedule for your household once a week. Choose heart-healthy recipes and add the ingredients you need to buy to your shopping list. This not only can help ensure a healthy diet, but it could also lower your grocery bills.

Is the coffee business expanding or are we now more aware of the coffee industry?

I do not know if you realize that Starbucks is now in India. They are all over the world and all the other fast food businesses are now offering coffee as part of their breakfast menu. It is as though the coffee business has expanded overnight and each cup of coffee is money in hand.

Sacrificing time for money BP situation

If the Managers or Supervisors of BP Oil really did sacrifice time for money, this is not unique to them. In business you hear and see this happening quite often.

Some of us, love to take short cuts. We are quite aware that the company policy has a prescribed method for doing something, but we realize that if we are able to complete the job another way it would save time and money. So we make the decision. This is probable what happened with BP Oil.

Think about it, as a Manager or Supervisor how many times have you operated outside the box or outside the company’s policies, because you feel you can save time and make more money? If you were at BP Oil what would you have done?

In the heat of the moment the adrenalin is flowing, the customer is there demanding some type of service that is not covered by policy, or the guys are there in the field or on the rig waiting on you to give the go ahead.

Is there time to analyze, to play out various scenarios?
What are your options? What impact your decision will have?
Are their lives involved?
What if your decision is not the right one?
Did the Managers at BP Oil reflect on all this?

Making more money for the company will definitely make you look good, or even finishing the project before the scheduled time. If this turn out well, it may even provide you with a promotion. You can see yourself winning branch of the year or company of the year. What about Project of the year?

Sacrificing time for money does not always work. You may take a short cut and end up with more problems than if you had taken the long way out. We all know this, and I am sure it may have happened to you several times.

Sometimes after you make the decision you recognize that a key part of the transaction was not completed or a process in the project was bypass and this would cause problems with the entire project. So what is more valuable time or money and what was valuable to the Managers of BP Oil?

As a Manager, Supervisor or even if you have your own business it is always good to ensure that when making any decision more so those where you are sacrificing time for money, that you consider all aspects of the situation:

– Explore various options – the what ifs.
– Get feedback – as Managers and Supervisors we do not always have all the answers.
– Review the costs of your decision – financial and non-financial (people/image).
– Is this within your authority?
– Do you have a backup plan?

You must remember that you would be accountable for whatever decision you make as in the case of the BP Oil officers or Managers. You cannot hide once you are the Manager, Supervisor or Business Owner you must be prepared to deal with the consequences of your decisions.

Are you ready to put away your eyeglasses?

Are you ready to improve your eyesight and throw away those old eyeglasses?

I am 52 years young and have been wearing eyeglasses for 30 years. I am also hypertensive and on medication. What about your contact lens – have they ever fell while trying to put them in your eyes and you cannot find them. Do you remember seeing your self on the floor with your finger tips feeling the floor and yelling to people in the office or at home – do not walk there, my lens fell.

Recently I was talking to a friend of mine who is now able to see more clearly and with less effort. He has actually stopped using his eyeglasses, the one in the picture above.

15 Low Cost Ways to Stay Healthy and Young

I am now in my early fifties and I feel and look great and I want to help you feel healthy and young.

At one time I was in a job in the financial services sector and I used to spend most of my free time and money at the Doctor’s office.

I always had the flu, stomach problems, headaches, constipation etc., so I lived on antibiotics. If you are familiar with these illnesses you may have realized that these are all stress related. I struggled to balance work and family life in addition to completing my degree. My life at that time seemed to be in a bit of flux.

A friend introduced me to a book called “What Doctor’s Don’t Tell You About Vitamins”. I was very startled about the information provided in this book. I did some more  research on vitamins and took a course in Nutrition. Based on my research I started to take more vitamins and use foods that provide me with natural nutrients.

I used lots of  vitamin C, B, D and some of the  natural supplements I tried were – Noni, Acai, Goji, Aloe Vera. I also used the One minute Cure For All Diseases .  To these  I added   some simple floor exercises. As I continue to take these natural supplements and do the exercises  I realize that I no longer got the flu as often as I did and a number of the various aches and pains  had disappeared, and I was feeling great.

  3. Be Positive – the more positive you are,  the more your body will feel and look better. Positivity also promotes wealth and good relationships. You have everything you ever need to live the life you want and you are worthy of this. Do not let anybody tell you differently.
  4. There is no need to take a dozen different supplements or tablets . What makes Coffee healthy?

The Caffeine in Coffee is known as a stimulator that  increases alertness and improves your ability to concentrate. Hence the reason most of us drink it. Coffee drinkers must have their coffee every day! There are claims that caffeine has additional health benefits, such as the ability to decrease risk of disease, improve athletic performance and boost memory.

An analysis which was completed by scientists at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and revealed that people who drank two cups of coffee a day were 14 percent less likely to suffer from a stroke.  The analysis was  combined statistics from eight studies conducted between 1960 and 2011 that had researched the correlation between coffee consumption and human health. The analysis included the results of  surveys from some 500,000 individuals.

There are a lot of varying views and of course scientific opinion  is sometimes strongly divided on the accreditation of coffee as having potential health benefits.  Whether it is clear or not  there are strong indications from the experiences of individuals and some nutritionists  that  consuming coffee  may help in lowering the incidence of type 2 diabetes and heart disease and may provide other health benefits.

Let’s take a look at some research so far that indicate there may be some truth in the health potential of coffee:

Help in reducing the risk of stroke

The Karolinska Institute researchers  found that individuals who drank two and three cups of coffee a day appeared to be less likely to suffer from a blood clot in the brain by 14 and 17 percent, respectively. According to the published findings  the antioxidants found in coffee may help shield the brain’s blood vessels from so-called “bad” cholesterol.

Help in Lowering the risk of heart disease

Although Caffeine intake may cause an increase in blood pressure a Harvard Nurses’ Health Study  published that they did not find  habitual caffeine intake  as a reason for increases in  the risk of cardiovascular disease.  Further the Journal of Epidemiology and Human Health noted that drinking two cups daily reduced the risk of dying from heart disease by 23 percent. This was  according to a Japanese study of 81,000 men and women .

Lowering the incidence of type 2 diabetes

One 2004 study, where more than 125,000 participants were observed, the researchers theorized that it is the antioxidants in coffee (specifically ones like chlorogenic acid and magnesium) that helped improve insulin sensitivity.

 

Helping  with memory, alertness, and reasoning

For all the coffee drinkers, we all know what happens when we have that first cup  or two of coffee to wake us up.  Women 65 and older may find it very interesting to know that  a 2007 French study appear to reveal that the caffeine in coffee helped slow “cognitive decline.

About gallstone formation and gallbladder disease

If you are concerned about gallstone a study released in 2009 found that men who drank two to three cups of coffee daily were 40 percent less likely to develop gallstones compared to non-drinkers. According to Authorities moderate consumption of caffeinated coffee helps  with stimulating contractions in the gallbladder and lowering the cholesterol in the bile that can cause the stones to form.

Helping to protect against chronic liver disease

Some research seems to suggest that if you are at risk of developing liver disease because of heavy alcohol consumption you may benefit  from drinking a couple of cups of coffee daily. Indications are that Coffee may lower the risk of the development of elevated liver enzymes, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

All the above  is based on moderation. We all know that we survive on more than one cup daily.
